Grosvenor Road embraces materials which celebrate the clients’ Portuguese and Scandinavian heritage

The Grosvenor Road story begins with the Portuguese tiles which our client bought on one of their trips. The blue and white tiles characteristic of Porto and it’s surroundings are reflected in the exterior tiling of the building. This also gives a nod to the craftsmanship apparent in the original Victorian detailing of the home.

The dialogue between the internal and external materials is driven by the client’s Portuguese and Scandinavian heritage. They wanted to find two complementary materials to celebrate each culture, as a subtle yet meaningful imprint throughout the house.

To bring in the Scandinavian flavour, all the furniture, walls and ceiling are made from one single OSB smartply timber board. The simple logic of this finish provides a practical yet playful finish that suits the young family’s needs. The board is made of 100% sustainably sourced timber with no added formaldehyde, and being sourced from the British Isles makes it one of the cheapest and most sustainable types of board available.
